Full Text of the Brief of Amici Curiae I Signed that Counsel Filed with SCOTUS in DeBoer v. Snyder Today

Supreme Court

As I wrote on Wednesday, I have joined a legion of other advocates of the freedom to marry in signing an amicus curiae brief that counsel filed with the U.S. Supreme Court today in DeBoer v. Snyder. The full brief and list of amici are below, but here’s a passage from the section “INTEREST OF AMICI CURIAE“:

Amici are social and political conservatives, moderates, and libertarians from diverse backgrounds. Many have served as elected or appointed officeholders in various Presidential administrations, as governors, mayors, and other officeholders in States and cities across the Nation, as members of Congress, as ambassadors, as military officers, as officials in political campaigns and political parties, and as advocates and activists for various political and social causes. Amici support traditional conservative values, including the belief in the importance of stable families, as well as the commitment to limited government and the protection of individual freedom. Because they believe that those conservative values are consistent with—indeed, are advanced by—affording civil marriage rights to same-sex couples, amici submit that the decision below should be reversed.

In addition to being one of over 300 signatories to the brief, I’m one of just over 40 from Tennessee. This is important because a Tennessee law is involved in the case before the court. I linked to Jennifer Rubin’s story on the brief at the Washington Post this week, but I also encourage you to check out the coverage below.
